Violence comes in many different forms. Make A Stand Against Violence is a campaign that helps young people understand what violence can look like, and aims to tackle harmful behaviours such as bullying or physical fighting before they escalate.
The campaign focuses on providing young people with the tools to be an ‘active bystander’, by taking action to look after their mates and safely de-escalating harmful situations.
Our bystander film explains more. Watch this with a young person and support them to Make A Stand Against Violence.
How do I help a young person to make a stand?
There are things a young person can do if they hear, see or know about something that doesn’t feel quite right.
Taking action can happen in one of these ways:
- Cool it down. Say something that will help ease the tension.
- Be direct. If you know something isn’t right, tell someone.
- Get help. Find someone you trust to step in and help.
We’ve created a whole section for young people on how to make a stand. We recommend checking it out with your child or a young person in your care, and talking through the safety of each action.
